22nd SEANF Annual Conference

Komnas HAM concluded its 2025 Chairmanship of the South East Asia National Human Rights Institutions Forum (SEANF) through the 22nd SEANF Annual Conference, held in Jakarta on 19–20 November 2025.

The Conference brought together Southeast Asian National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs)—SUHAKAM (Malaysia), MNHRC (Myanmar), CHRP (the Philippines), NHRCT (Thailand), and PDHJ (Timor-Leste)—to review national human rights developments, assess the implementation of the SEANF Strategic Plan 2022–2026, and strengthen the Forum’s governance and strategic direction. Key discussions addressed priority regional issues, including statelessness, the rights of older persons, regional communications, reforms to the Rules of Procedure, and coordination mechanisms for responding to cross-border human rights challenges.

As SEANF Chair in 2025, Komnas HAM provided strategic leadership to advance effective governance, inclusive participation, and consensus-based cooperation among member NHRIs, reinforcing the credibility and operational effectiveness of the Forum.

As part of the SEANF 2025 programme, the 5th Interface Meeting between SEANF and the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) was convened on 20 November 2025 in a hybrid format. The Meeting provided a platform for dialogue on regional human rights priorities, including human rights in the digital space, capacity building, and cross-border issues such as statelessness; refugees and asylum seekers; migrant worker protection; trafficking in persons; online scamming; and business and human rights.
