In his opening remarks for the SEANF Technical Working Group meeting in 2021, Mr. Jerald Joseph, Chair of SEANF and SUHAKAM Commissioner, emphasized the vital role of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) in responding to human rights challenges amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
The meeting focused on key issues such as the rights of older persons, climate change, torture prevention, and improving NHRI engagement with intergovernmental human rights mechanisms. With the goal of fostering dialogue and knowledge-sharing, the meeting aimed to strengthen human rights advocacy in Southeast Asia through collaboration and best practices.
