The Southeast Asia National Human Rights Institutions Forum (SEANF), comprising the National Human Rights Commission of Indonesia (Komnas HAM), the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM), the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC), the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines (CHRP), the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRCT), and the Provedor for Human Rights and Justice of Timor-Leste (PDHJ), convened its second Technical Working Group (TWG) Online Meeting from August 25 to 27, 2020, in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Ahmad Taufan Damanik, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission of Indonesia (Komnas HAM), extended a warm welcome to the SEANF delegates attending the first day of the 2nd Technical Working Group (TWG) Online Meeting, which was conducted via the Cisco Webex platform.
With the aim of upholding the aforementioned rights and enhancing collaboration among SEANF members and delegates, the 2nd Technical Working Group (TWG) Online Meeting, held from August 25 to 27, 2020, focused on key substantive themes. These included the protection of children through guidelines for social media platforms and websites, anti-torture initiatives, and matters related to the effective functioning of the SEANF secretariat. Additionally, the meeting addressed administrative and logistical issues, such as endorsing the modalities and provisional agenda for the SEANF annual meeting, including whether future events would be conducted in-person or online. The discussions during the 2nd TWG Online Meeting aimed to address challenges posed by the economic recession and emphasized the importance of asserting human rights principles in the fight against the ongoing pandemic.
