 The establishment of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC) is anchored on the core provisions of the Paris Principles. It is formed on 5 September 2011 under Notification No. 34/2011 by Myanmar President Thein Shein with a view to promote and safeguard fundamental rights of citizens as enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. The Commission is vested with the competence and responsibilities which include receiving complaints on violations of fundamental rights of citizens; and, investigating and communicating its findings to the relevant department and bodies of the Government for further action. Members of the Commission include former government officials, diplomats, academics, doctors, and lawyers.
